Description: This wool U.S. flag has white fringe and cotton stars that have been hand-sewn. It features 13 red and white stripes and a blue canton with 44 5-pointed stars situated in staggered rows of 8-7-7-7-7-8 Known as the Peace Flag of 1891, it represents the pre-World War I peace movements in America. The dimensions are 134 by 210 cm. On June 14, 2000 (Baltimore, MD) The U.S. Postal Service released a set of 20 historic flags entitled "Stars and Stripes" which included the peace flag of 1891. Wyoming was admitted as the 44th state on July 10, 1890. View on Ohio Memory.

Description: According to a typed caption on its reverse, this photograph from the Columbus Citizen-Journal Collection shows the Post Office Department's Highway Post Offices before their first trips, in Columbus, Ohio, 1952. In operation starting in the 1940s, these red, white and blue mobile post offices were used as sorting and delivery facilities, and carried mail and postal workers across a wide geographic area following the decline in use of the Railway Post Office service. The Cleveland, Ohio, & Cincinnati, Ohio Highway Post Office was the last in the country to be discontinued, in 1974. View on Ohio Memory.

At the top two corners of main division of building fronting on Limestone St. are mounted two 18-foot eagles, one on each side of the entrance facade, said to be the world's largest fully-molded eagles and used in ornamental construction." This photograph is of the U.S. Post Office located at 150 North Limestone Street, Springfield, Ohio 45501. Construction began on this Art Deco style building in 1934 and has several murals by artist Herman Henry Wessel. In the 1970's these mural were covered up during energy conservation remodeling on the building, but in 2009, restoration began to restore these murals and the two story skylight.
